Happiness knows no size!

One of these days, I visited a pet shop with my mind set on acquiring a couple of parakeets. My mom had a pair when I was a young girl, and I remember playing a lot with them - an effect of being an only child.

As there weren’t any parakeets available, I came across another pair. These buddies were restless and very attentive to everything around them. I found it very difficult to resist these tiny creatures that almost begged me to bring them home.

Little did I know that these mandarins, besides singing their own tunes, could perform impressive acrobatic flights inside their new home. I was mesmerized the first time I watched them. Who would have guessed that these tiny birds could fly in such an outstanding way?

The funny thing about them is that they never went to school; no one told them what to eat or drink, how to maintain their personal hygiene, or how to act in the face of potential danger. They just do it instinctively.

They are very suspicious and, at the same time, quite curious, which makes them an intriguing pair. They fly all over the place at first when I try to clean their cage, but a few moments later, they’re singing and eating, showing no fear at all. It’s as if they fear the unknown but, at the same time, expect the best.

Happiness is a constant in my new buddies’ lives. They don’t stress - unless I’m trying to clean; they converse with me in their own incomprehensible way; they sing, they fly, and they sleep well at night. Come on, be serious: you dream of a life like that, right?

I found myself thinking about how amazing it would be if all of us, human beings, could live totally detached from the need for money, success, power, attention, and other people’s opinions. If we were this free, we’d be truly happy, living on the bright side of life, with no expectations, but hoping for the best.
