Embracing Life and Legacy

It’s wonderful to be alive and experience the mesmerizing wonders of this beautiful world. Perhaps that’s why we often avoid conversations about death. When a friend loses a loved one, we struggle to find the right words, and when we face loss ourselves, we dislike feeling patronized.

The very idea of no longer being here can be frightening. We think about the achievements we desire to witness - our children getting married, having families of their own, and growing alongside them, providing a friendly shoulder whenever needed. In truth, it’s not death itself that scares us; it’s the thought of not being able to support and guide our loved ones in their lives.

Everyone dreams of making a difference in the world, believing that our presence is essential for that impact. While it’s true to some extent, it’s not the only way. Consider Thomas Edison: he’s been gone for many years, but we still benefit from the electricity he brought into our lives. It’s not merely our presence that matters; it’s the values, education, guidance, and big ideas we pass on to others - our legacy.

In today’s digital age, we have numerous gadgets and tools that give us the opportunity to shape and share our legacies for a long time - or at least until they become a bit outdated. So, dear reader, here are a few ideas to help ensure your legacy endures:

- Focus on your big ideas

- Master new technologies

- Share your knowledge through writing, filming, or giving lectures and workshops

- Expand your network

- Enjoy the process, and stay open-minded - sometimes, great achievements occur when we least expect them.
